Hello!  Welcome to my website, Design Counsel For Home.Com.  My name is Rhonda Kifer and I have been promoting good design in the home for over thirty years.  This website is for homeowners seeking professional help or guidance with a decorating project and for home decorating enthusiasts who just want to learn more about design, improving, and most importantly, enjoying your home, family, and some good food!

Did you know that good design enriches how we live and work?  Maybe you've never thought about that.  Good design improves the quality of life, not only with pleasing surroundings that affect our mood, but with functional, organized space that brings order and meaning to our homes.  No doubt, results show that having order and purpose in our homes help to relax the mind and actually make us more productive!

So how can you have a well designed home that enriches your life?  First, start your decorating project by having a good plan.  Lack of clarity and planning causes failure.  Be sure to define and prioritize your decorating goals.  Your ideal interior environment should be comfortable and compatible to your lifestyle and not just about what's in or what's out.

Surround yourself with the things you love, and you are on your way to having a successfully decorated home.  If you're still feeling stuck or overwhelmed by a decorating challenge, be sure to get some professional assistance before starting.

Decorating your home can be very rewarding whether you are beginning anew or using what you already have to create a fresh look.

To help you get started, I've included some decorating tips and articles on color, accessorizing, furniture arrangement and organizing that will be featured throughout this website to support and motivate you to make your home the best it can be.  I've also included some of my favorite recipes for you to enjoy during the holidays or at anytime!

So remember, good design does not mean you must buy the most expensive things.  The key is planning, good placement of furniture and accessories, and using the right color to achieve the look and atmosphere you desire for your home.

Decorating Tip:  Go Thrifting!

Shop at thrift stores, outlets and flea markets in your area to accessorize your home.  You will be amazed at what you can find.  Take a look at my portfolio of before and after photos.  Can you tell where I've used these thrift store and flea market "treasures" in the after shots of homes decorated?  Of course not!  So why not give it a try.  Mix the old with the new, your finer pieces with an Ikea dresser, that Louis chair with a flea market table, or just have fun creating your own unique look!
